The year-old Sarnia woman and her business partner Debbie Allen recently started Sarnia Meet and Match, a speed dating business for singles. It's an alternative to conventional meeting spots and online dating, said Walton.
Married men posing as singles, and even scammers looking to defraud people out of cash have turned her off the online experience, she said. And heading to bars and events with friends to try and meet someone, she said, hasn't panned out as well as she'd hoped.
Up to 24 people — even numbers so there's no odd couple out at the end — have a series of quick five-minute conversations in pairs.
Right now it's opposite sexes, but Walton said she plans to open up the business for same-sex matchups in the next few months. At the end of about an hour and a half, everyone hands in a card with their verdicts, and Walton and Allen do the rest.
For now, events are every second Wednesday evening at Jack Doyle's, she said. Walton said she has events planned into February so far, and details are available at www. Leanne Fera opened Sarnia's Mompreneurs chapter Dec. Events, like workshops on growing business, will be scheduled about once a month, she said. So far about 45 members have joined in Sarnia, said the home-based travel consultant.

She suspects the invite is because her store is a prestige French Dressing Jeans customer, and staff in the Sarnia shop are brand-trained to offer fit clinics for customers. Staff make sure customers bend and move in the jeans and check that everything fits perfectly. She's excited for the meeting, and to meet with brand executives, she said.
